More than 30,000 runners participated in the 2015 Guangzhou Marathon on Sunday in south China’s Guangdong Province.
The annual sports event, organized by the Guangzhou Government and Guangzhou Sports Bureau, kicked off in the city’s symbolic Huacheng Square.
This was the fourth time Guangzhou has held the event, which attracted runners from 46 countries and regions to compete in three separate races: the marathon (42.195km), the half marathon (21.0975 km) and the mini marathon (5 km).
In addition to running enthusiasts, 46 professional athletes were invited to participate as well.
In the end, Sentayehu Merga Ejigu from Ethiopia crossed the finish line first, breaking the men's record for the marathon with 2 hours, 9 minutes and 57 seconds, with his compatriot Tizita Terecha Dida claiming the women's title.
