A Russian court has banned Moscow's Church of Scientology on the grounds that it does not comply with federal laws on freedom of religion. Government officials wanted the church shut down, arguing that the organization could not be a religious body, because it had tried to register "Scientology" as a trademark. The Church of Scientology of Moscow was first registered in 1994, but later moved to new costly headquarters in the city's downtown area, a mile from Red Square. The church's lawyers claim that it had "violated no bans" and its closure violated the rights of "tens of thousands of believers." Might need to send in Tom Cruise to make this mission possible.
