Syria’s antiquities director Mamoun Abdulkarim says ISIL terrorists have entered the museum in the ancient city of Pal-mai-ra and have placed guards at its doors.
Experts suspect the terrorists would loot the site and sell the artifacts on the black market. Palmyra's museum and artifacts have already been damaged during Syria's four-year war. The terrorists have destroyed major archeological sites in neighboring Iraq, too. The U-N cultural body UNESCO has expressed concern over the fate the historic sites in Palmyra under ISIL’s control.
